A man in his 40s has died following a collision between his motorcycle and a car in Renmore on the outskirts of Galway city on Sunday morning.

The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the collision on the R338 Old Dublin Road at Renmore Park shortly after 10am on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later and removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway. The local coroner has also been notified.

Garda Forensic Collision officers carried out a full examination of the site and the road had reopened to traffic by Sunday evening.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses of the collision to come forward, including those were were travelling on the Old Dublin Road at Renmore Park about 10am on Sunday and who may have any camera footage or dash cam footage.
