A man is in a critical condition following one of two separate shootings in Belfast on Friday night.
The man was shot in the head at a fast food outlet on the Oldpark Road in the city at about 5:40pm.
Inspector James Murphy of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact police.
“A report was made to police at around 5.40pm that a man had received a suspected gunshot wound to his head in the vicinity of the fast food takeaway,” he said.
“A blue coloured Vauxhall Astra estate car was seen to make off from the scene and a car matching this description was found on fire a short time later nearby in Torrens Gardens.”
In a separate incident just before 8pm, a man was shot in both legs in what has been described by the PSNI as a “paramilitary type” shooting. It occurred at a block of flats in the New Lodge area of north Belfast.
The victim was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The PSNI has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
