A four-hour stand-off involving a woman who refused to leave a Halal shop in the centre of Tralee ended peacefully and without further incident shortly before 8pm on Friday evening.
Castle Street was sealed off and a garda negotiator was quickly on the scene of the stand-off after a woman refused to leave the Halal meat shop.
It is understood the lady, who is Irish and in her 30s, entered the shop at around 4pm. It is not clear what exactly took place, however staff left the shop quickly.
The woman took possession of knives but no one else was at risk, said Supt Jim O’Connor.
The woman is not from Tralee and her family was being contacted. It is understood she may have health issues.
She was arrested and brought to Tralee Garda station where she is being held in custody. Nobody was injured in the incident.
