Gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing of a man at a rave party over the weekend believe his attacker may be as young as 16.

Sources said an arrest or arrests are imminent in the murder investigation, but that the circumstances of the night are still being pieced together by investigators.

Gardaí are working on the assumption the stabbing resulted from a row over drugs.

A postmortem examination has been carried out on the deceased, who is aged in his 20s but who has not been named. However, the results, which will reveal whether or not any drugs had been consumed, will not be known for a couple of weeks.

A source said the prime suspect is a teenager and may be as young as 16. He is known to gardaí and an arrest is believed to be imminent although inquiries are ongoing in an effort to build up evidence about the attack.

The victim died in the early hours of Sunday morning. He had attended the rave at an industrial estate unit on O’Casey Avenue, Parkwest in Ballyfermot. Anyone with information can contact the Garda confidential line on 1800-666-111.
