Two arrests over Irish Rail worker being locked in car boot

Pair being held in Portlaoise over assault which happened in Mountrath 10 days ago

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault on a man in which he was locked in the boot of his car.

The incident occurred at about 5am on December 5th at Kilbricken, Mounrath.

The victim, an Irish Rail security man, arrived for work at a compound in the area and was approached by at least three men who assaulted him and locked him into his car boot before leaving the scene.

The men were arrested on Wednesday and are currently being detained at Portlaoise Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
