Two men have been arrested in Westmeath after gardaí seized cannabis herb worth about €30,000 in two separate searches in Mullingar.
Gardaí conducted a planned search of a house at Marlinstown on Wednesday afternoon as part of what they described as an ongoing intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Westmeath area.
Cannabis herbwith an estimated street value of up to €10,000 was seized and two men in their 50s were arrested. Drug paraphernalia was also seized, a Garda spokesman said.
In a follow up search at a house in Streamstown on Wednesday night, gardaí seized cannabis herb (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €20,000 along with what the spokesman said was a “large quantity” of cash.
One of the men was released without charge on Wednesday night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The second man is currently detained under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Athlone Garda station.
