Two men charged after €360,000 cannabis seizure in Longford

Two men have been charged after the discovery of an estimated €360,000 worth of cannabis at a house in Co Longford on Thursday.

They have appeared at Longford district court and have been remanded in custody to appear again on January 23rd.

Three men were originally arrested after searches carried out at a property near Abbeylara yielded cannabis plants worth in the region of €360,000.

The third man has been released without charge.

The plants were found in a converted garage attached to the house which was being used as a grow-house. The raid was carried out by gardaí from the Roscommon/Longford Drug Unit and the Regional Armed Support Unit.

Those arrested are currently being held in custody at Garda stations in Granard and Longford under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Cigarettes

Separately, Revenue officers at Dublin Port seized two million smuggled cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €1 million.

The smuggled cigarettes were branded ‘Richman’ and were detected when the consignment, addressed to Dundalk and said to be made up of “household goods,” was selected for examination following routine profiling.
