The Hague - The war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia yesterday more than doubled the prison sentence of a Croat who was commander of a prison in Bosnia after finding that his crimes were more serious than first thought.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia handed down a seven-year term to Zlatko Aleksovski, who had been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison in May last year for his role in running the Kaonik prison in central Bosnia from January to May 1993.
