Up to date information on TDs' and senators' ownership of property and other investments is provided in the latest register of Oireachtas members' interests.
Lodged in the Oireachtas Library yesterday, the Dáil register confirms that the Green TD, Mr CiaráCuffe, sold his shareholdings in oil firms last year after the controversy that followed publication of the interests of his $1.37 million portfolio in 2002.
Mr Cuffe's current portfolio includes shares in Microsoft, the New York Times, Intel, Marriott International, Safeway, and Walgreen. Mr Cuffe also owns a property in Fade Street, Dublin, which is let.
Former minister Mr Michael Lowry said he was executive director of Garuda Ltd, In-Store Cooling and Abbeygreen Consulting, and a director of Vineacre, a Bedfordshire property company. He owns 35 acres at his residence in Holycross, Thurles, and owns 10 per cent of a 2.5-acre site at Mansfield, England. Some of these interests have been the subject of inquiries by the Moriarty tribunal.
The Sinn Féin TD, Mr Arthur Morgan, declared shares and a non-executive directorship in Seafood Processors, a firm that has a contract to supply fish products to the Defence Forces and the North-Eastern Health Board.
The Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell, declared ownership of a property and an undeveloped site at Manders Terrace, Dublin 6, and an office unit at Eastpoint Office Park.
The Sligo-Leitrim Fianna Fáil TD, Mr John Ellis, declared 160 acres of farmland and ownership of a rented apartment in Dublin 8.
Former taoiseach Mr John Bruton declared income from six speaking engagements in the US, Russia, France, Greece and South Africa. He declared ownership of some 407 acres of farmland in Co Meath and an interest in a cottage at Cornelstown, Co Meath. His brother, Mr Richard Bruton TD, owns some 225 acres of farmland in Dunboyne and Woodtown, Co Meath.
The Co Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD, Mr Donie Cassidy, declared shares in 13 hotel, property and music-related interests and said he was owner of 10 investment or rental properties in Dublin and Mullingar.
The North Dublin Fianna Fáil TD, Mr G.V. Wright, declared his interest in eight residential and commercial properties, mostly in Malahide, Co Dublin.
The Seanad register shows that the Superquinn founder, the Independent senator, Mr Feargal Quinn, declared his interest in Tokad Company, the ultimate holding company of all his commercial interests. In addition to Superquinn, these include Falfield, Falstone, Highlighters, Ingatestone, STM, Sundrive Management and SuperQ.
The Independent senator, Mr Shane Ross, the business editor of the Sunday Independent, declared shares in Bank of Ireland, Arcon, Scottish Value Trust and Vodafone. He is a non-executive director, chairman or deputy chairman of seven investment trusts in Ireland, Britain and the Cayman Islands.
Co Kildare senator Mr John Dardis, of the PDs, declared ownership of shares in 21 US, Irish and British firms. These include Tesco, AIB, Bank of Ireland, GlaxoSmithKline, Citigroup, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfitzer.
Killarney-based auctioneer Senator Paul Coghlan, of Fine Gael, declared 24 commercial and residential property interests in Killarney, Tralee, Dublin, London, Bristol and Essex. Mr Coghlan owns shares in Kerry Group, Radio Kerry, Irish Life & Permanent, AIB, Bank of Ireland, First Active, CRH, Greencore, Vodafone, telephone firm Newbury in Berkshire and Britannia Property Dorset Ltd in Surrey.
Dublin-based auctioneer Senator Eddie Bohan, of Fianna Fáil, declared shares in Manchester United, AIB, Lloyds TSB bank, insurance firm Aviva, Bendery Properties in Britain, security firm Protec and waste disposal firm Energy & Tect. Mr Bohan is chairman of insurance firm Alan Tierney & Partners and a director of wholesalers Cullen Bohan Ltd, and property investment firms Drumlish Investments Ltd and Amalgamated Holdings Ltd.
Senator Frank Feighan, of Fine Gael, is the owner of McDonagh's Newsagents in Boyle, Co Roscommon, and is landlord of the Sikh Palace Restaurant in the town. He is landlord of five apartments in Boyle and Sligo, and of a house in Boyle. He owns shares in seven publicly quoted firms.
Senator Paschal Mooney of Fianna Fáil has shares in Aviva, Vodafone, First Active, Anglo-Irish Bank and in Irish Life and New Ireland unit trusts. He also has interests in six music publishing, broadcast and recording firms and lets two properties in Sligo and Leitrim.
