Former Independent TD Mr Joe Sheridan died at the weekend, a month before his 84th birthday. Mr Sheridan represented the Longford-Westmeath constituency for 20 years. He was the father of Irish Times journalist Kathy Sheridan.
He was born in Moyne, Co Longford, and later moved to Tyrrellspass, Co Westmeath, where he worked as a farmer and auctioneer. Mr Sheridan and his late wife, Sarah, had five sons and four daughters. The funeral will take place tomorrow at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar.
