The death has occurred of the longest serving member of Laois County Council, Cllr Tom Keenan of Portlaoise. Cllr Keenan served for almost 50 years on the county council.
He was chairman of the council 13 times, and chairman of the General Council of County Councils several times. He was married with six children.
