The Church of Ireland Archdeacon of Dromore, Ven Ken Good, has been appointed as Bishop of Derry and Raphoe. He succeeds Bishop James Mehaffey, who retired in January.
Archdeacon Good (49) is rector of Shankill parish in Lurgan, Co Armagh. He grew up in parishes in Cork, where his father, Canon Raymond Good, was rector. The new bishop was educated at Cork Grammar School and Midleton College, Co Cork.
He is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, and Nottingham University in England. He trained for the ministry in St John's College, Nottingham.
He is a member of General Synod and various church committees, including the Commission on Ministry and Council for Mission in Ireland.
Archdeacon Good is married to Mary, who comes from Seattle. They have three children: Jennifer, Peter and Andrew.
He is a keen golfer and represented Munster in schools hockey and cricket. He also completed two Dublin marathons and enjoys music, especially opera.
