A north Dublin club has won a medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the second year in a row.

Naul Gardening & Flower Club has been awarded a bronze medal for its floral art exhibit ‘The World Comes to Chelsea’.

Staged in the Chelsea’s Floral Art Marquee, the exhibit was created by Christopher White of Three Gates Nursery in Naul, and Dominica McKevitt, head gardener of Ardgillan Park.

The display was inspired by this year’s Chelsea Flower Show’s centenary celebrations, as well as the upcoming 11th World Flower Show which will be held next summer in the RDS, Dublin and hosted by the Association of Irish Flower Arrangers (AOIFA).

Along with a mixture of exotic flowers such as orchids, proteas, anthuriums as and roses, the club's floral art exhibit used a variety of unusual foliage including callistemon, cryptomeria, azara and magnolia, sourced from the famous gardens of Ardgillan Castle with the permission of Fingal County Council.

Commenting that the standard of floral art exhibits at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show was extremely high, Christopher White said that the fact that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Naul Gardening & Flower Club made its success all the sweeter.

Other Irish winners at this year’s show include Siobhan Hughes and Karen Sherwin of George Preston Florist in Newry, who respectively won silver and bronze medals for their exhibits in the ‘Young Chelsea Florist of the Year’ category.
