Worried, anxious or concerned about the link between films and their relevance in the classroom? Relax, there is an in-service course for you. Film and the Book aims to unravel the connections between books, films and the connecting process of screen adaptation.
The course, partly funded by the Department of Education and the European Social Fund, will be held in Belfast on Friday and Saturday, October 10th and 11th. It's for both primary and second-level teachers. During the conference, which is being organised by the Teachers' Association for Media Education (TAME), in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Media Education Association (NIMEA), a number of workshops will be run to look at various areas including adapting Shakespeare and children's fiction for the screen. Some of the workshops will focus on texts which are suitable for primary school pupils. There are about 30 places, so don't delay. For information, contact Mary Gillan at fax number (01) 820 9867, or at her e-mail at mbg@indigo.ie.
