Junior Cert: Classical Studies: The 1,360 students who still had exams to sit finally finished the Junior Cert yesterday. It was a good day for students of Classical Studies, who enjoyed a "lovely paper with no surprises".
"This was an excellent paper for any student that had covered the course," said Stratford School's Latin teacher Ms Tanya Twyford. "Some questions were a bit vague, but not enough to put the students off."
The Junior Certificate Classic paper is not considered daunting as topics are well spread over the years, and it is rare for the same topic to come up two years in a row. At 591 students, this is a minority subject, but one student described the syllabus as "immensely enjoyable."
Junior Certificate Latin students also had a satisfying day with a "nice paper and no quibbles".
Less than 10 students took yesterday's Junior Certificate Ancient Greek.
This year's Junior Certificate was a positive affair with most students reporting fair papers without errors or deviations from the prescribed syllabuses.
