Students urged to celebrate results in ‘fun but safe’ fashion

Garda, Minister and parents group urge party goers to look out for each other

Students tell of their relief after collecting their Leaving Certificate results and say what college they plan on attending.

Students planning to celebrate their Leaving Cert results today are being encouraged to have fun but stay safe.

Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn said students should “enjoy celebrating your results with your families and friends,” adding that it was well deserved.

Mr Quinn also advised students to “look out for each other tonight, and into the future.”

The National Parents’ Council Post-Primary said students should “absolutely celebrate” their achievements. The council said study leading up to examinations was “a tough task and the culmination of years of work” and its advice was to “go out together, stay together, go home together.”

Meanwhile, party venues competing for tonight’s business are promoting themed nights, such as “UV parties” and visits from reality TV figures.

Grime artist Tinchie Stryder is the attraction at one Dublin nightclub, while some of the cast from the Made in Chelsea series and Geordie Shore will visit celebrations in clubs in Dublin and Galway respectively.

The council also had advice for parents, suggesting that they should arrange to pick up party goers once the celebrations are done. It hoped students would “remember tonight for all of the right reasons”.

A statement from An Garda Síochána said students to celebrate safely and within the law. It also urged to “make sure you keep an eye out for your friends, and enjoy the night.”
