Sixteen people died and three were injured in a high-speed road crash between a bus and a truck in northeastern Egypt, security and medical sources said today.

Four of the dead were children. The crash happened last night on the highway between Ismailia and Abu Hammad, and the casualties were taken to hospital in Ismailia.

A security source said high speed was to blame. Road accidents are common in Egypt due to reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor road conditions.
