Workers at Eircom have presented the company's Chief Executive Mr Alfie Kanewith a petition outlining their dissatisfaction with Eircom bidder eIsland.
The petition, signed by 4,258 Eircom workers accused Mr Denis O’Brien’s eIsland of being ‘anti-union’.
Eircom workers also accused Mr O'Brien of being highly critical of Eircom and its workers in the past.
eIsland has reacted angrily to the petition saying the company was surprised at being referred to as 'anti-union'. A spokesperson said the eIsland bid offers greater participation to employees and the union coalition than any other proposal.
eIsland director Mr Padraig Ó hUigínn said that should the bid for Eircom succeed the principle of partnership would apply from the outset.
He added that "all employees can look forward to a bright future with eIsland underpinned by our commitment to work with their union representatives and our superior proposals as set out in our offer document."
