Two 19-year-olds and a man in his late 60s were killed in three road traffic incidents around the country over the weekend.
In Galway, Jennifer Glynn (19) from Ballintemple, Castlegar, Galway, died after she was struck by a car at 4.40am yesterday morning.
The incident occurred at Monivea Road, near Briar Hill in Galway. The young woman, a pedestrian, was removed to Galway University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The road remained sealed off for a number of hours yesterday as officers carried out a technical examination of the scene.
Gardaí at Mill Street in Galway are investigating the incident.
In a separate road fatality yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old male motorcyclist lost his life in Tipperary when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash.
This occurred some time after 3pm at Melison, Glengoole, Tipperary on the Urlingford to Killenaule Road.
A spokesman for the Garda press office said the victim was taken to St Joseph's Hospital in Clonmel, where he was pronounced dead.
The road was temporarily closed yesterday as officers examined the scene.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Donegal are investigating a fatal road incident which happened after 11pm on Friday in which a 67-year-old male pedestrian died.
He was struck by a car at Baile An Teampaill, Falcarragh. His name has not yet been released.
Gardaí meanwhile have released the name of the victim of a single-vehicle road traffic incident in Kildare which happened some time between Thursday evening and Friday morning. He was Jason Stone (27), Kilglynn, Kilcock, Co Meath.
Gardaí at Kilcock are investigating the cause of the incident, which occurred on the R407 at Painstown in Donadea, Co Kildare.
Mr Stone died when the car he was driving hit a tree before falling into a drain. The car was discovered shortly after 11am on Friday morning.
