An Enniscorthy woman charged with the manslaughter of her mother has been sent for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court in Wexford.

Eleanor Joel (32) and her partner, Jonathan Costen (34), were arrested in January and charged with reckless endangerment and the manslaughter of Evelyn Joel (59) who died on January 7th, 2006.

Mrs Joel, who was in poor health and bed-ridden, had been living with the couple at their home in the Cluain Dara estate on the outskirts of Enniscorthy. On New Year's Day 2006 she was taken to Wexford General Hospital where she died a week later.

At Enniscorthy District Court yesterday Judge Donnchadh O'Buachalla ordered that both be sent forward to trial and remanded them on continuing bail. The couple had been signing on at Enniscorthy Garda station three times a week but their solicitor, Julie Breen, said that this had been "causing them difficulty" with regard to babysitters.
