A status yellow wind warning for western counties this evening will usher in a spell of wet and blustery weather across the entire country for the Easter weekend.
Met Éireann has issued an alert for winds of between 25 and 40 km/h and gusts of up to 60km/h for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
The warning is effective until 10pm on Friday evening, but further warnings do not appear to be out of the question as strong winds are expected to last the entire weekend, particularly for coastal areas.
Those attending public events and commemoration ceremonies over the centenary celebration weekend are well advised to bring an umbrella as consecutive fronts of rain wash over the country over the coming days.
Inclement conditions
A band of heavy rain approaching for Friday night will affect all areas. And this will be followed by further inclement weather on Saturday – with highest rainfall expected across the midlands and west.
Most areas should see rain on Sunday; and Monday will bring further heavy bouts approaching from the south and affecting mainly eastern and southeastern counties.
Daytime temperatures will remain in single digits over Saturday, Sunday and Monday and will drop below freezing in pockets of the midlands and north over Sunday night.
