A 23-year-old man is to appear before magistrates in Newry, Co Down later today following his arrest in the city.

He will face charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply and of having an offensive weapon. The man will also be charged with driving while disqualified, dangerous driving and not having any driver’s insurance.

As is usual practice, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is understood the arrest may be linked to another incident yesterday in Ardmaine Gardens, a cul-de-sac in the east of the city, in which a PSNI car was rammed and two PSNI officers injured as they responded to a complaint of anti-social behaviour.
