A former councillor was taken into custody yesterday and appeared in a district court on charges under the Offences Against the Person Act.

The man faces a total of 12 charges, six of gross indecency against one male and six of indecent assault against another male.

The offences are alleged to have taken place, mainly in the Dublin metropolitan area, between November 1974 and mid-April 1975.

Insp Barry O'Rourke told Tralee District Court the man was technically in custody, but the State had no objection to bail.

Judge Humphrey Kelleher ordered the case to be adjourned and brought before the Circuit Criminal Court on January 17th to allow time for a book of evidence to be prepared. He ordered that the man's name and address not be published.
