Bullet-proof glass has been installed in the housing section of Limerick City Hall in addition to the security cameras following a number of physical and verbal assaults on housing officials.

The city manager, Mr Con Murray, said that despite objections by some of the city councillors, the security cameras would be retained in the housing department. "Obviously our primary concern in this respect is for the safety of our staff," he said.
