The Italian who tried to hijack a Paris-bound Alitalia airliner last month has been found dead in the French prison where he has been held since.

A prison official said Stefano Savorani had been found dead in the prison in Lyon, southern France.

He did not give details of the cause or time of his death.

The prison is already carrying out an investigation into the unexplained death earlier this week of Savorani's cellmate, the official said.
