The family of a Co Down schoolboy who drowned after he fell into the sea off a pier near his home in January, presented Boyne Fishermen's Search and Rescue team with a new lifeboat, to commemorate their son and to help future rescues in the area.
Jordan Murdock, (14), from Killough, slipped into the sea on January 11th last. The Boyne diving team were present every day of the three-week search before Jordan's body was finally recovered.
The family say the boat, which will bear their son's name, was paid for with donations received locally and from further afield.
The €14,000 boat was presented to the Boyne team at a ceremony in Killough on Saturday by Jordan's mother, Carrie. The boat was bought in Scotland and the Drogheda divers have agreed to set up a special unit in Killough.
Mrs Murdock said: "Many people searched for Jordan but the Boyne rescue divers never left this place and they were fantastic. They did everything they could to find Jordan and we will never forget their efforts."
Local Sinn Féin Councillor Éamonn MacConmidhe also welcomed the family's decision saying: "This is a wonderful gesture by the people of Killough. The community association asked Jordan's mother what she wanted to do with all the donations and they all agreed with her that this was the best thing to do."
