Fears remain for Irish missing after bombs

Fears remained last night for two people with Irish connections missing following the attacks in London on Thursday. Ciarán Cassidy (22), who lives with his Irish parents in the Finsbury Park area of the city, had reportedly taken the tube to work that morning but never arrived.

A New Zealand woman, who was thought to be travelling on an Irish passport, was also reported missing and has yet to be found.

Meanwhile, the mother of a 24-year-old Irishman who was injured in the bombings has said he is doing well despite suffering "flash burns" to his face and arms as he made his way to work.

Willie John Walsh, from Moycullen in Galway, underwent surgery last week for head and arm injuries. He had caught the train at Liverpool Street and was travelling to Aldgate when a bomb went off in the carriage he was in. Seven other people travelling in the carriage were killed. "He's doing well. He has burns and lacerations but hopefully nothing that will cause permanent damage," Barbara Walsh told The Irish Times.
