Tennis: World number one Roger Federer secured a French Open second-round date with France's Thierry Ascione after wrapping up a straight-sets victory over Michael Russell at Roland Garros.
The Swiss star was strolling at 6-4 4-1 up in his first-round match against Russell on Monday when play was suspended because of rain.
Resuming on a sun-kissed Philippe Chatrier court the following day, Federer was in just as clinical form and breezed to a 6-4 6-2 6-4 triumph in no time at all.
Home favourite Ascione is next up for the top seed after he routed qualifier Marin Cilic in straight sets earlier on Tuesday. Federer is aiming to win his first title at Roland Garros.
