At least 10 women were killed when a fire destroyed a senior citizens nursing home early today in the South Korean southeastern port city of Pohang, officials said.
The city's fire department said most of those killed were elderly patients who could not move easily and were unable to escape. Seventeen people were injured.
"I was sleeping and went out because I saw light, and flames were shooting up from the office," said night-time caretaker Choi, who used only one name.
