Five men were sentenced to fifteen years each for attempted murder and seven years for false imprisonment in Limerick today.

The five men are Desmond Dundon, from Hyde Road, Limerick, Christopher Costello from Ballynanty Beg, Anthony McCarthy from Fairgreen, Limerick and David Stanners and James McCarthy, both from Moyross.

Last December, the men were convicted and sentenced to life for their part in the murder of Kieran Keane.  Today's sentences relate to the attempted murder and false imprisonment of Owen Treacy on the night Kieran Keane was killed in January last year.

Mr Keane was abducted and died from a single gunshot wound to the head.  His body was found on a country road in Drombana, Co Limerick. Mr Treacy, a nephew of Kieran Keane's, survived the attack but was stabbed 17 times.  He was the chief prosecution witness in the trial, which was moved from Limerick to Dublin due to security concerns.

At the Central Criminal Court in Limerick, Mr Justice Paul Carney told those involved in an inter-family feud in the city that the five men sentenced today would die in prison as long as the feud continues.  He said the men had already been sentenced to life imprisonment and that the Parole Board was unlikely to intervene while the feud remained a live issue.
