An accident investigator examines the car at scene of the crash between a car and a parked lorry on the North Circular Road, Dublin early this morning in which three people died and a fourth is critical in hospital. Photograph: Collins, Dublin.

Two men and a woman have been killed in an early morning car crash in Dublin city.

A third man is in a serious condition in the Mater Hospital.

They were traveling in VW Golf that went out of control and hit a parked truck on the North Circular Road near the junction with Prussia Street at around 3.20am.

Two people died at the scene, while the third died in the Mater Hospital.

Gardaí have named the victims as Thomas Shortall (42) from Shurock, Moate, Co. Westmeath and Christopher McGowan (30) and Helen Power (30) both of Parkgate Place, Parkgate Street, Dublin.

Elsewhere, two brothers were killed in a collision between two cars in Co Cork last night. The crash happened just outside Midleton in East Cork on the Cloyne road at 6.20pm.

Paul (20) and David (18) Kirby of Avoncore Estate were killed instantly when their Honda Civic collided with a Toyota Avensis.

A ma in his late 40s who was traveling in the other car was taken to Cork University Hospital. He is said to be in a serious condition.

The deaths bring to 114 the number of people killed on Irish roads this year to date.
