Gardaí are still questioning five men who were arrested after separate drugs seizures yesterday which netted an estimated €11.5m worth of cannabis and cocaine.
Four men were arrested in Carbury, Co Kildare, during an operation in which cannabis with an estimated value of €10 million was seized.
Gardaí from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Customs officers raided a premises and discovered 1.2 tonnes of the drug.
Three Irish men, aged 27, 30 and 43, and a 54-year-old Spaniard, are now being held under Section Two of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficing Act.
Two are being questioned at Naas Garda station, while the others are being held at Newbridge and Kildare.
ireland.comunderstands one of the men held is a leading criminal from the Corduff area of west Dublin. He is well known to detectives as an associate of the "Westies" criminal gang and as a drug dealer. He is also suspected to have been involved in raids on bank ATMs.
Gardaí also seized an articulated lorry and a van during yesterday's operation. RTE radio today reported the lorry had been specially equipped with concealed compartments.
Elsewhere, cocaine with an estimated street value of €1.5 million was seized and a 34-year-old man was arrested following an operation involving gardaí from the National Drug Unit and local units in Coolock, north Dublin at around 1.00pm.
Some 20 kilos of the drug were recovered in the swoop. The suspect is being held under Section Two of the Drug Trafficing Act.
