Michael Flatley has received an apology in court over allegations that his Lord of the Dance show had often played to half-empty houses and that he lost £10 million in the recent legal action brought against him by his former manager, Mr John Reid.
Mr Flatley and the show's producers, Unicorn Entertainments, had sued the Daily Mail after the claims were made in an article on October 23rd.
Their solicitor, Mr Graham Atkins, told Mr Justice Gray at the High Court in London yesterday that Lord of the Dance was a record-breaking show which earlier this year performed the most sell-out dates on record at Wembley Arena. Its three current productions - one resident in Las Vegas, another touring America and the third touring Europe, including the UK - continued to play to sell-out audiences.
In the settlement of the recent court case, Mr Flatley had agreed to pay "only a small fraction" of the £10 million claimed against him.
Daily Mail publishers Associated Newspapers accepted the allegations were untrue and apologised for any embarrassment caused.
The libel settlement did not involve payment of damages.
