The convicted murderer and former IRA activist turned informer, Mr Sean O'Callaghan, who was questioned by gardai this week, was released without charge from Naas Garda station yesterday.
He had been in Dublin to give evidence in a case in which a Co Louth farmer, Mr Thomas Murphy, took a libel action against Times Newspapers Ltd over an article published in the Sunday Times on June 30th, 1985.
After giving evidence, he was arrested and taken to Naas where it is understood he was questioned about a number of matters, including the death of Mr John Corcoran, an IRA man murdered in Kerry in March 1985.
He was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, under which he could be held for 48 hours.
