A former Marist Brother and teacher serving a jail sentence for child abuse charges is in hospital this evening after he had his throat slashed by another inmate at Castlerea prison.
Christopher Cosgrove (62) of Ballyhaunis Road, Claremorris, Co Mayo, was jailed in March for eight years for 180 counts of indecent assault on six schoolboys.
It is understood he was attacked in the prison's common area with a razor today. He was brought to the County Hospital in Roscommon where his condition is understood to be stable.
Gardaí are investigating the incident.
