Four anglers who had been warned not to go to sea sparked a search and rescue operation at the weekend after their 12ft boat suffered engine failure off the Clare coast.

Two of the men, all believed to be Latvian and to have travelled from Portlaoise, were intercepted by the same rescue crews in Kilkee less than a fortnight ago after they were found in a small dinghy in the same area where a man lost his life just a few days earlier, on November 5th.
