The bodies of four babies have been found at a house in Austria.

Police in the city of Graz, in the southeast of the country, said the children had died around birth. Officers said the cause of death was unclear.

Two were found in a freezer, one in a bucket of concrete and another in a nearby shed.

Police said a woman (32) was arrested on suspicion of killing the babies but had said she did not know what had happened.

“She says she was in such a state that she simply doesn't know what she did,” the head of Graz criminal police said. The woman's boyfriend (38) was also arrested on suspicion of murder.

Graz's Kleine Zeitungnewspaper said the house was divided into flats and that a resident had found a baby's body in a plastic bag inside a shared freezer.

Police are searching for more bodies.
