Four people died in road accidents in the Republic at the weekend
Mr John Sheridan (19) Abbeyview, Rathmullen, Co Donegal, was killed in a crash involving a car and a van on the Carrickmacross Road, near Ardee, Co Louth, yesterday morning. Gardaí from Ardee are investigating the collision which occurred at around 9 a.m.Mr Sheridan was a passenger in the van.
The driver of both the van and car were injured. All three were taken to hospital in Drogheda.
Gardaí in Buncrana, Co Donegal, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 24-year-old man who died when he was struck by a car while walking at Greenbanks, Muff, Co Donegal, on Saturday. He was later named as Mr Aidan McColgan, from Muff.
He was one of two pedestrians who were walking shortly after 5 a.m. when struck by a car; the second man survived.
This is the second serious road accident in Donegal in the space of a week. Last Thursday three young people were killed in the same area when their car struck a tree.
While on Saturday, a 32-year-old man died when his motorcycle was in collision with a tractor at Cootehill, Co Cavan. The gardaí from Shercock, Cavan, are investigating.
An 81-year-old woman, Ms Kitty Harrington, of Slip, Bantry, Co Cork, died on Saturday when she was struck by a car while walking.
In Cahir, Co Tipperary, gardaí have named the 71-year-old woman who was fatally injured when she was struck by a lorry on Friday morning as Ms Marlene Bailes from Kilcommon, Cahir, Co Tipperary.
In the North, a man died on Saturday in Co Fermanagh after a three-car collision. The accident happened on the Ballyconnell road outside Enniskillenat 11.50 a.m. The Ballyconnell road was closed to traffic.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Cavan are investigating the death of a man who was drowned on Saturday morning.
The 36-year-old got into difficulty when he attempted to retrieve a ball which had been thrown into Trinity Lake, Killykeen, shortly after 7 a.m.
He had not been named last night.
