Gardai today made a fresh appeal for information on the sixth anniversary of the murder of teenager Raonaid Murray in Dun Laoghaire in 1999.
Ms Murray died after she was stabbed in the side, chest and shoulder by a kitchen knife near her Silchester Park home around midnight on September 3rd.
She was returning from a night-out in Scott's pub nearby.
Gardai believed that several people with important information on the crime have still not come forward. "It's six years since the murder now and if somebody out there thinks they can help gardai, it's still now too late to come forward," garda spokesperson said.
Ms Murray, 17 collapsed from her injuries just 50 yards from her home. Her body was found within a half hour by her older sister, Sarah.
More than 8,000 people have so far been interviewed and almost 3,000 statements taken in the six-year garda investigation. There have been 12 arrests in total but no-one has ever been charged.
Family and friends raised a reward of €190,000 for information leading to the murderer but none of it has been claimed. A new team of detectives, led by Supt Donal Neill of Dun Laoghaire Garda Station, was put in charge of the case a year ago. "We remain very determined to solve this crime," Supt Neill said.
