THE FAMILY of missing woman Imelda Keenan, who was last seen at a bridge in Waterford 17 years ago yesterday, has made a fresh appeal for information regarding her whereabouts at a memorial service in the city.
About 50 people, including members of the Waterford Marine Search and Rescue, took part in a candlelit vigil and prayed at the bridge in William Street in the afternoon.
The missing woman’s brothers, Gerry and Donal Keenan, addressed those present and reminded them that a digitally enhanced poster has been created.
Ms Keenan, 22 when she went missing, is from Mountmellick in Laois but moved to Waterford to complete secondary school.
With brown hair, thin and at 5ft 6in tall, she was was studying in Anco (now Fás) in the city at the time of her disappearance.
The missing Laois woman was one of nine children.
Donal Keenan yesterday said their mother Elizabeth “died with a broken heart” 2½ years ago.
Gerry Keenan said: “Today is a very sad occasion; 17 years down the road and it’s like the first year Imelda was missing . . . “If someone is out there that wants to say something in private, please come forward; it’s never too late.”
