CORK: Bus and rail services in Cork came to a halt as drivers marched hrough Cork city centre in protest at the Government's plan to privatise CIÉ.
According to an Irish Rail spokesman mainline intercity services as well as commuter routes to Cobh and Mallow were affected by the stoppage.
Buses in the city also came to a halt with city centre services cut after 11 a.m. and also statewide bus journeys also stopped departing from Cork. All services were back on track and on the roads by 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
SIPTU and National Bus and Rail Union members walked through the city with placards attacking the Government. Irate members warned that this was just the beginning of their actions if their concerns are not addressed.
Mr John Pearson, secretary of the SIPTU Number five branch, said every effort had been made to keep disruption to a minimum.
