PARIS, BERLIN and Amsterdam all got one and now Dublin is creating its first “urban beach”.
The artificial seascape, billed as the first of its kind in Ireland, will open in Dublin’s docklands area next month.
A sand-based fun park will be created at George’s Dock at the IFSC, from July 4th to 20th.
There will be nowhere to swim but promoters, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA), promise “sizzling summer activities and themed nights for Dubliners of all ages”.
The site will be adorned for the occasion with palm trees, beach cabanas, lounge chairs and, no doubt, numerous dogs.
A DDDA spokeswoman was yesterday inviting allcomers to “enjoy the barbecue, refreshing smoothies and ice-cream all served from beach huts.
“Showers, towels and changing rooms ‘beach-style’ will make it easy to join in the aerobics and body-pump lunchtime classes.” There will also be games of giant chess and boules. A variety of activities will be aimed at children, particularly at the weekends.
