Gardaí in Galway are examining CCTV footage in an effort to apprehend a man who abducted and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old French student.
Gardaí have examined CCTV footage from where she was abducted on Clybaun Road and at the docks area of the city centre where she was assaulted.
The ordeal for the student began when a man approached her as she walked home on Clybaun Road on the west of the city shortly after 8pm on Sunday.
The man, believed to be Irish and in his late 30s or early 40s, bundled her into his car before driving to docks area. The student was then subjected to a serious sexual assault before her attacker drove to the city centre where she managed to escape.
Gardaí say the attacker has a distinctive tattoo on his right forearm. This is a black and white Celtic emblem with flames coming from it. "He is about 5'8", heavy set with a pot belly and had three to four days' stubble," said a Garda spokesman.
The man, wearing a white round-neck sweat shirt, was driving a small maroon car with four doors, possibly a Ford Fiesta.
Gardaí are also anxious to speak to a man and a woman who helped the student near Galway Cathedral after she escaped.
Gardaí at Salthill (091-514720) are appealing for assistance in catching the attacker.
