The partner of a woman whose body was found at a Co Galway cottage last month has been charged with her murder.
Kieran Lynch (39), of Rose Cottage, Derryhoyle, Craughwell, Co. Galway, appeared at Athlone District Court today and was charged with murdering his partner Catherine McEnery (35) at their home in Craughwell on July 16th/17th last.
Mr Lynch was earlier charged with assault causing harm to Ms McEnery. He was also charged with producing the leg of a chair in the course of a fight, contrary to the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act on the same occasion.
Detective Martin Glynn gave evidence of arresting Mr Lynch at 2.20pm yesterday and charging him with Ms McEnery's murder. Det Glynn said the accused man had replied "nothing to say" to the charge.
An application for legal aid for Mr Lynch's solicitor, Patrick Burke, was granted. He was remanded in custody in Cloverhill Prison to appear in Cloverhill District Court on Thursday next, August 18th, at 10.30am.
Mr Burke stood for the brief hearing, but said nothing. He wore a two-tone beige and navy jumper, navy jeans and black shoes.
