Galway enjoyed a dramatic second half comeback as they overcame a determined Armagh 0-10 to 0-08 in their NFL 1B clash at Pearse Stadium this afternoon.
In a bizarre encounter the Tribesmen had to wait until the second period before they managed to register a single point on the board. When Padraig Joyce broke the deadlock it opened the floodgates as Galway set about the task at hand.
Armagh, with the wind at their backs, held a 0-06 to 0-00 lead at halftime. Paul Keenan, Stephen McDonnell (0-02), Michael O'Rourke, Gareth Swift and Charlie Vernon all got on the scoresheet.
Vernon and Peadar Toal added score in the second half but Galway secured the win with injury points from Joyce (0-05) before Cormac Bane sealed the win.
Last night Tyrone were unable to contain Cork in last night's Allianz NFL Division 1A encounter as they went down 0-15 to 0-07 at Páirc Uí Rinn.
It meant the Ulster side relinquished their unbeaten start to this season's league campaign with James Masters (0-06) and Kevin O'Sullivan (0-05) the primary contributors to the Cork tally. The McKenna Cup champions had won their last seven matches before this defeat.
Despite Stephen O'Neill finding the target the northern side tralied 0-06 to 0-04 at the interval then had little to offer in the second period.
To make matters worse Owen Mulligan was sent-off in the 53rd minute for striking Michael Shiels.
Cork were determined, and with outstanding individual performances such as man-of-the-match Ger Spillane the Rebels always held the desire to go on and win.
Cork move up to fourth in the table ahead of their trip to Dublin on Saturday, March 10th. Tyrone have a fortnight to regroup before they host Donegal, whom they beat in last weekend's Dr McKenna Cup final.
