The Garda in Co Louth have arrested a man in connection with an investigation into a burglary at a cash-and-carry in Dundalk.

The 40-year-old man was detained just after 7.00 a.m. this morning in Dundalk.

In December of last year a shop on Castle Street was raided by what gardaí believe was a republican gang.

Cigarettes valued at over €260,000 and around €80,000 in cash was stolen by the armed gang.

Up to 15 raiders were involved in what a garda described as "a military-style operation".

Both the "Real IRA", whose power-base is in Co Louth, and the Provisional IRA are suspected of being heavily involved in cigarette smuggling.
