GAA:Westmeath's Garrycastle have won the Leinster Club Football Championship after beating pre-match favourites and Dublin champions St Brigids 1-08 to 0-10 with an injury time free from Conor Cosgrove in Tullamore.

The Athlone side dominated the first half and opened up a six points to one lead by the break, and when Garry Dolan scored a goal early in the second half, the contest looked all over. St Brigid's clawed their way back and manage to draw level one minute from time through Gavin McIntyre.

However, there was time for one last twist in the tale and it came a little over a minute into injury time when Garrycastle were awarded a free kick. Cosgrove was unerring and the win for Garrycastle sets up an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with neighbours St Brigid's of Roscommon - the two clubs hailing from Athlone.

It is the first time that a Westmeath club has won the Leinster club football championship,
