Gas leak probable cause of Clare pub explosion

The Garda believe a gas leak was responsible for the explosion at a Co Clare pub early this morning.

A Garda spokesman said the explosion occurred around  5.30 a.m. at Galvin's pub and B&B on Main Street, Lahinch.

Four people were evacuated from the building and two were taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Ennis suffering from minor injuries. They were released after treatment.

The rear of the pub suffered extensive damage and a number of windows were
blown out. Windows in a nearby Church were also damaged, as were those in a number of neighbouring houses.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
