Republic of Ireland and Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given will wait until next summer before deciding whether his long-term future belongs at St James' Park.
The 29-year-old has been at Newcastle since 1997 and insists he is "in no mad rush" to extend his current contract, which expires at the end of the 2006/7 season.
Given said: "I have two years left on my deal and, so far, the club have not offered me a new one.
"We will have to see where this season takes us and I will look at the situation again. But I have to say I am in no mad rush to sign a new contract at Newcastle."
Formerly of Blackburn and Sunderland, Given has emerged as one of the Premiership's leading goalkeepers while at Newcastle.
He admits last season's 14th placer finish left him "disappointed" and is hoping Newcastle boss Graeme Souness can bolster his squad before the start of the season.
"We have sold six players and brought in two so anyone can do the maths and see we are short," he said.
