Ireland's first herbal and medical dispensary, offering conventional and alternative medical treatment in the same premises, will open in Cork next month.

Family GP Dr Ronan Gleeson has spent the past decade researching herbal medicine and cures.

"Increasingly, people in the West are turning to herbal medicine," he said, "but they also want the reassurance of conventional medicine."

"And since a number of well known herbs such as St John's Wort, ginkgo biloba, kava kava and ma huang, are now available on prescription only under Irish law, I felt the time had come to offer both forms of treatment in one place," he added.

The new premises are at MacCurtain Street.
